A homeowner in Red Bank, NJ was dealing with rooms that were either too hot or too cold, along with rising energy bills, caused by inadequate insulation and conditioned air leaking into the attic. We started by properly air sealing the attic, then addressed the skylight, where inadequate insulation allowed conditioned air to escape and radiant heat to enter the home. We installed rigid foam boards with a radiant barrier and sealed all seams with spray foam to reduce air leakage and limit radiant heat transfer. To complete the project, we blew in cellulose insulation evenly to the optimal R-60 level, using clean installation techniques with minimal airborne dust. The cellulose insulation is non-toxic, treated with fire retardants, and has antimicrobial properties. As a result, the home is now properly air sealed and insulated, improving comfort and helping lower energy bills.
