Leaking Crawl Space Ducts Causing Poor Air Quality in Highlands, NJ

These ducts in Highlands, NJ are located in the home’s crawl space, which can be a good thing compared to attic ductwork that can bake under the sun. However, problems arise when crawl space ducts are damaged or leaking. In this case, the pan ducts are pulling in moisture, dirt, particles, and potentially mold, sending contaminated air back through the HVAC system and into the home. The situation is made worse by open crawl space vents, which allow outside air, humidity, and other pollutants to enter and be drawn into the return side of the system. As shown in the video, smoke clearly reveals air leaking from the crawl space into the ducts, which are also deteriorating and showing signs of growth. By sealing the ductwork and vented crawl space, properly insulating the area, and installing a vapor barrier, we can create a healthier crawl space and, most importantly, a healthier home.
