Photo Album: 2015 IECC Blower Door Test in Point Pleasant, NJ
This local home-builder contacted Dr. Energy to perform a 2015 IECC blower door test on one of their new homes in Point Pleasant. As of 2015 the International Energy Conservation Code requires all new homes to be tested for their overall air leakage in an effort to improve the overall energy efficiency of homes across the nation. We test using 'Climate Zone 4' standards in the Jersey Shore area as it is wet with moderate temperatures.
We also use this as a measure of how leaky existing homes are in our energy audits to assess what steps need to be taken to stop the air leakage in your home. It is also an effective testimony to the before and after effects of our work, as we can compare the tests to show what percentage of energy you will save to heat or cool your home.
Frame Fitting
The adjustable frame is fit to the front door tightly to create an airtight seal to ensure accurate testing.
Nylon Door Sealed
The nylon door is secured around the frame and fan to ensure accurate airflow testing.
Windows Sealed
All exterior windows and doors are secured so they will not obstruct the readings.
Fan Depressurizes
The fan depressurizes the house then determines how much air moves through the house. The tester then determines how many times air is fully cycled through your home per hour based on the readings.
