No Power Story!
Recently Dave Hoh's Home Comfort & Energy Experts completed a fairly standard type of project at a home in Pt. Pleasant NJ. The home was a 1954 ranch style house with original 3" R-11 fiberglass batts in poor condition in the attic and no insulation in the majority of the exterior walls. The house was built on a crawl space which had been upgraded with R-19 floor insulation and water management measures.
The reason we were called in by the customer, is that in the heat of the summer the (New) air conditioning system could not maintain temperature and ran from early morning to late in the evening until the sun had been down for several hours.
The project included air sealing the attic flat to prevent heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer, insulating the attic flat to the optimum level of R-60 ( as recommended by D.O.E. in climate zone 4 ) and dense-packed the exterior walls. The insulation for both the top of the house and walls was TRU SOFT cellulose insulation. This insulation in addition to being green and healthy around humans is that it outperforms fiberglass insulation by up to 40%.
After the project was completed in July of 2019 during a heatwave the customer lost power for 5 hours! Before the power went out the thermostat was set at 70 degrees and the house was 70 degrees. During the 5-hour power outage the interior temperature only went up 4 degrees to 74.
This is particularly impressive since the exterior temperature was 97 degrees with a real feel temperature of 103 degrees.
Before this air sealing and insulation project, the air conditioning could not have kept up or maintained the temperature in the home, even running non-stop!!!
This is just one of many results for homes that are properly air sealed and insulated by a team of professionally trained installers and a company that fully understands how a home works when it comes to comfort, indoor air quality, and energy consumption.
