Fire Place Drafts

Challenge

Reduce the drafts and cold spots around a fire place, when it is not in use.

Solution

#1-Indentify what is causing the area around the fire place to have drafts and cold spots.

#2 Use proper materials and procedures to reduce or eliminate the problem.

The finished picture shows how we sealed a wide open chase way allowing cold air to drop into and around the fireplace box. This is a very commom problem. It requires professional to correct and make sure everything stays safe. The RESULT is far less cold drafts coming into the living room with a corner fire place.

This image is taken from the attic looking down an open chase to the top of the fire place box. This allows cold air to drop down around the fire box and into the house.

This is the same angle and shows the open chase properly covered and sealed. Non combustible materials used for required clearances around the chimney flue itself.
