Poorly Insulated Attic in Manalapan Township, NJ
Challenge
In Manalapan Township, NJ, a homeowner faced issues with inadequate attic insulation. Unfortunately, they had paid for a job that didn't meet proper insulation standards, resulting in an improperly insulated space. The attic lacked air sealing, had an insufficient R-Value, and allowed conditioned air to escape into the attic from the adjoining wall. Consequently, the homeowner experienced higher electric bills.
Solution
To address these issues, we took comprehensive measures. We air-sealed the attic floor using orange ZypFoam, sealed the ducts with mastic tape, encapsulated the ducts as necessary, and installed SilverGlo foam boards on the adjoining wall, sealing them with orange ZypFoam. This meticulous approach ensures that conditioned air no longer leaks into the attic from the rooms below and the adjoining wall. Furthermore, we built retaining walls specifically designed to confine the blown-in TruSoft cellulose insulation, providing it with an impressive R-value of R-60. As a result of these improvements, the homeowner now enjoys increased comfort and energy efficiency in their home.
