Poorly Insulated Adjoining Wall & Cathedral Ceiling in Marlboro, NJ
Challenge
This homeowner’s daughter’s room in Marlboro, NJ was uncomfortably hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. With a vaulted or cathedral ceilings it takes longer to heat or cool because air circulates in larger open areas. Plus we have gaps in the lights that allow air you paid for to heat to leak out of your home. Warm indoor air leaking into the roof assembly can cause condensation, mold and rot in the roof. Also the room is adjoined to the attic and is poorly insulated. In the attic we can see the adjoining wall with exposed fiberglass insulation that does next to nothing to insulate. We can see dirt built up on the exposed fiberglass insulation because the attic is not properly air sealed or the seams are exposed letting air leak into the adjoining wall.
Solution
Our team removed the fiberglass from the adjoining wall and installed our SilverGlo insulation panels. We dense packed the Adjoining walls with our TruSoft cellulose insulation and used our orange ZypFoam sealant to air seal the adjoining walls. Next to address the vaulted ceiling we first seal the light housing with silicone or high temperature caulk to stop the air leaks. Finally we will dense pack the vaulted ceiling with our TruSoft cellulose insulation. This homeowner’s daughter’s room is now more comfortable and energy efficient.
