Removal of Attic Insulation in Brick, NJ

Challenge

This homeowner in Brick, NJ had some really old decrepit looking insulation. Not only does this insulation look nasty, but it does next to nothing to insulate the owner’s house. With the attic not being air sealed or properly insulated, this homeowner was having difficulty maintaining a comfortable and energy efficient home.

Solution

The owner’s attic had two layers of fiberglass insulation. One layer was the original insulation of the house and the second layer was installed over time. To properly insulate the owner’s attic our team removed both layers of the old fiberglass insulation. Once all the insulation is removed we then use our orange ZypFoam sealant to properly air seal the attic. Air sealing the attic is one of the most important steps to insulating the attic. If we skipped this step we would have air leaking in an out of the attic’s seams. Finally after the attic is air sealed we will blow-in our TruSoft cellulose insulation. This homeowner now has a more comfortable and energy efficient home.

This is an image of the secondary fiberglass insulation over the original insulation. The attic is not air sealed properly. Without the attic being air sealed, air will continue to leak in and out of the seams of the attic into the rest of the house making the rest of the rooms uncomfortable.

This image is still in the working progress of insulation removal and properly air sealing. Our crew removed all the old fiberglass insulation and air sealed all the seams of the attic floor. We used our orange ZypFoam sealant to seal the attic and any holes or gaps left. We also use light covers and seal those seams so any light fixture are up to code.

We removed all the old insulation and properly air sealed the attic. Finally, we blew-in our TruSoft cellulose insulation to the proper levels. Notice the baffle vents are properly in place so the attic can be ventilated properly.
