In Manalapan Township, NJ our team inspected a homeowner’s attic and found some leaky ducts. We found the supply trunk contaminated with rodent droppings and urine. The indoor air quality of this house or attic was compromised with rodent droppings and urine. The supply trunk was also deteriorating and some of the owner’s ducts weren’t even connected. With the attic not being air sealed and the ducts not sealed or connected, we have contaminated air circulating around the attic into the house. Also our customer is now paying more to heat and cool their house. The heating and cooling equipment has to work even harder to cool or heat the house.
Solution
Our solution was simple; we have to replace the old fiberglass contaminated supply trunk with a new metal supply trunk. The new metal supply trunk will help prevent rodents from entering into the trunk and potentially contaminating the air. The new metal supply trunk is heavily insulated around the metal. Next we reconnect the trunk lines to the new metal supply trunk and inspect the rest of the ducts. Any other leaky ducts we sealed using latex mastic and wrapped them to code. The rest of the flex ducts are mostly buried in our TruSoft cellulose insulation, so they do not need additional attention.
This homeowner is lucky to have called us. We helped this owner with their leaky ducts and their air quality in their home. This customer now enjoys a healthier home, a more comfortable house and pays less on their fuel/electric bills.
We are looking at the seams where the flexible duct meets the supply trunk. Notice the holes where air leaks out.
This image is showing a partially connected duct. This large gap is leaking air into the attic making the owner waste more energy to heat or cool the house.
An image like this is self explanatory. How is the customer expecting to cool or heat their house with the duct not connected? A lot of energy wasted while air is being blown in and out of the attic. This contaminated air now circulates around the house.
This picture is the old fiberglass supply trunk with the duct unattached. Inside the supply trunk there is evidence of rodent droppings and the fiberglass inside is stained with urine. This can cause bad indoor air quality in the house.

In this image to left is the new metal supply trunk. This will be replacing the old fiberglass supply trunk on the right.
This image shows the inside of the old fiberglass supply trunk. We can see rodent droppings and urine stains in the fiberglass supply trunk. Remember air is circulating in and out of the supply trunks. This mean we have bad indoor air quality in this house.
We can see how clean and nice it looks inside the new metal supply trunk. No rodents are able to nest or chew inside the supply trunk. This keep the pests out and makes for a much better indoor air quality.
Our team working hard to connect the flex ducts and sealing all the leaky ducts. After we air seal the attic we will burry the rest of the flex ducts in our TruSoft cellulose insulation.
